“Where am I?”
“You are in a funeral room. You are dead.
You were involved in a ghastly accident.”
“You hit a truck loaded with pipes and your body was brought here.”
“What do you mean? Am not dead.”
“Am sorry, it’s painful and true and there is nothing I can do.”
“You were dead 8 hours ago. Your blood no longer circulates through your body, your brain cell is slowly dying and your body is already decomposing”.
Unable to move she voiced out slowly.
“Am not dead.”
The morgue attendant opened a cabinet, brought out a file and then a sheet.
“This is your death certificate. Cause of death, massive internal trauma. Time of the dead is 8:23pm. Am sorry, there is nothing I can do for you.”
“Oh, my God, what’s happening?”
“And why can’t I move my body?”
The attendant got some wool, to clean up her bruised forehead.
“Don’t touch me… What do you want to do to me?”
“Am preparing your body, you have to look good for your funeral.”
“I say am not dead, what do you want from me… Please let me go.”
“He looked at her and shook his head; “you all say the same thing. Maybe you should rest now Elena”.
He slams the door and walked away…
“Oh my God, what’s happening to me? Oh my God, I can’t be dead.”
“Yes. This must be a nightmare.”
“Wake me up, wake me up… please God, wake me up.”
Elena was praying and wishing it was a dream, but no its real. Alena had a little disagreement with her fiance… And amidst anger and tears she drove off and had a brutal accident and only to discover her body is in the mortuary talking with the attendant.
Scary, isn’t it?
As I watch the movie afterlife by Agnieszka Wojtowicz- Vosloo. It dawned on me that life is truly empty and that we have nothing of our own.
And to be honest…
It’s not dying that’s painful after-all we’ll all walk away when the time comes. The problem is knowing fully that you’ve not fulfilled what you were put here to do. Knowing with crystal certainty that you’ve not fulfilled your dream. Knowing shamefully that you’ve failed.
And that’s the painful part of the death.
Deep down, I believe we all have a primal need to be remembered. To leave positive legacies. To touch lives and pass something on to the next generation.
And if we are being honest, that’s one of the reasons why many of us joined the blogging wagon.
And so you pour your heart into a post, you link to other experts and did your best. But no comments, no shares, no tweets, nothing.
No one actually cared.
Maybe we are not saying the truth, maybe we are not smart writers, and maybe we don’t have artistic veins.
But truly bloggers deserve more.
Now you fear you’ll never be remembered, you fear you’ll never be able to stick in the minds of your readers.
A troubling thought indeed.
Writing the introduction of this post alone makes me shiver deep down my spine because it all boils down the reason why we do what we do which is noble but no one gives a damn…
It’s painful, but this can change.
If you want to win the game, if you want to stand out, if you want to be unforgettable, then you must do one thing:
Capture your reader’s heart.
And honestly, it’s not easy, given that everyone is yearning and shouting for attention, only a few have this enchanting ability.
If you want to stick and make an impression, then you must find a way to capture and entice your readers.
How to Impact Your Readers (So They Remember You for the Rest of Their Lives)
Ever read an article and felt like screaming? Or read a blog post, nod and smile in excitement?
Jon Morrow wrote an article and received an email from a fellow who wanted to commit suicide but the article stopped him.
Another woman reads the post and screamed in excitement, calling her family members to come to take a look.
What the hell?
How on earth do you write such a piece? How do you put down such soul saving piece?
The good news?
You too can wow your readers to tears and here’s how:
Proof That You Care
As a writer, go beyond telling.
Make them believe you understand their feelings.
Ride on the wings of empathy.
Have a clear mental picture of what keeps them awake at night and point it to them.
At the end, they’ll feel you have some telepathic ability. Sure you don’t, you are demonstrating what thousands of writers can’t.
Brutal honesty through the use of empathy
If you want to stand out and be a master wordsmith, if you truly desire to stick, then you must be brutally honest. Hide nothing under the blanket; spill it out, call out the elephant in the living room.
If you do this right, they’ll never forget you for the rest of their lives. And that means, you stick
Give a Pep Talk
It’s not enough to care; it’s not enough, to be honest.
Because what’s the point if we blab into peoples emotion and can’t help them?
As bloggers offer real and practical solutions.
Let them know they can achieve whatever they desire. Show them they are equal to whatever task or giant standing right before them.
Let’s take a look at closing from Jon morrow’s how to making money blogging
After all, isn’t that what we’re here to do? Help people?
And you see, that’s what I love most about this blogging craft: every article we write, every course we publish and every coaching call we do can drastically change somebody’s life. And maybe not always in a big way, but we touch hundreds upon hundreds of people, and we make their lives just a bit better right?
Yes, We inform them, we inspire them, and we give them the blue-print for achieving their own dreams.
And the goodnews?
We get paid for it. It’s our job.
I wish more people around the world knew it was a viable career. Let’s change that, shall we?
Inspiring, isn’t it? This is how you should close every post you write.
Our job as bloggers is not to evoke emotion. It’s not to write for the sake of it, but to help our readers, to point out light and make them confident about themselves.
That’s our job as writers or rather that’s what we are called to do.
Transmit Naked Emotion
Pass it to pass it on.
The best bloggers in the world are those whose words are birthed from emotion.
When you write, indicate your feelings at the top of your page, for instance, anger, fear, confidence, desire (whatever you feel) and let it reflect in your tone.
And let loose…
Sometimes my readers feel stuck noting.
And that’s because I felt nothing when I wrote that article.
Most of the times, I don’t allow such article to see the light of day. If you write and you feel noting before and after
Get rid of the bullshit.
And if your grandma asks why tell her I said so.
The bottom line: Let your emotion pass through your words.
Be Ready For Rejection
Your words might not be accepted and endorsed by all and don’t even expect head-nodes every other time.
And because your words are birthed in empathy, care, and honesty. you’ll be hated by fools who hate the truth.
They’ll give you thumb downs most of the time.
But don’t worry, you are not alone. you are a true loyalist, a true and worthy wordsmith. And in the world of bloggers, you are seen as a general, an expert and a true change ambassador.
And yes! You Are a Maven.
The rest can go stale and dry… yes they can go on with their writing merchandise to enrich their sucking pockets. yes isn’t that why most people install WordPress? To make money?
It’s a good thing, the only problem though, they aren’t changing any life. And its a shame and most are cowards who can’t face the world and point out the truth…
But you? You are ready to face the heat, to stand by your words, to bid mediocrity blogging farewell.
And you don’t even need everyone’s approval to do or say the right things, do you?
This is the way to win, the way to immortalize your words, the way to stick.
The bottom line:
Choose your own path and avoid the sea of sameness.
What Truly Matters At The End
For lawyers, it might be the number of cases fought and won.
And for accountants, its how much they were able to account for.
For doctors, it’s the number of people they were able to care for.
But we writers?
It’s not in the number of words written. It’s not the number of the guest post published. And it’s not even the number of friends or enemies we acquired.
But the people we were able to transform. The people we’ve belt and strengthened. The people we gave hope through your spirited words.
With smiles on their faces, they’ll never forget us for the rest of their lives.
And that’s what matters at the end.
So, get to work and be the person you were born to be. touch lives leave a positive legacy and fulfill your dreams.
After all isn’t that what we’re put here on earth to do?
And it begins by showing care, being brutally honest, giving pep talks, transmitting naked emotion and getting ready for rejection.
That’s the way to stick, that’s the way to write, and that’s the way to immortality.
Writing to cause positive change.
Again, that’s what truly matters and at the end of our lives.
So, go ahead and do it.
We are all waiting
